Gibson O'Connor - Completed it? Capture it!

TL;DR

Gibson O’Connor is one of our newest clients and we completed our first project together in March 2020. We captured a series of interior and exterior photos for a large completed commercial block in West Auckland for them to keep for their records, post on social media and share with potential tenants looking to move in, meaning it was a project with plenty of value.

See a collection of the completed build photos and read a little more about the story below. If you’re looking to showcase your build as a blank canvas before tenants move in, call Chris on +64 224 261 187 or get in touch via the contact form.

The Story

Britt Burke, Project Communications Coordinator at Gibson O’Connor, got in touch via our website as she was looking for a quote to photograph the inside and outside of a completed job in Avondale. Britt initially asked a fairly common question of “How do you charge? Per Image, per sqm or time?” The answer is time, every time.

But in order to accurately assess the time required I needed to understand a few factors. For example:

  • The size of the project, i.e. are we talking about a single residential studio apartment or a suburb sized new development. Naturally, a large site or project requires more time to capture.

  • What type of photography you are looking for i.e. is it stylistic or straight up? day time, dusk or night time? from the ground or from a drone? Different levels of expectation and different equipment alters the time required.

  • Are you looking to capture video too? To do the best job possible of both photos and video for construction projects (or any project for that matter) you need to allocate enough time to work with both outputs. What’s more, editing of video content requires more time than photo editing so that is also a consideration.

Britt and I discussed these expectations over the phone shortly after she got in touch and again just prior to the shoot at a meeting onsite. It’s vital to have a clear understanding to manage expectations from both sides and avoid any issues before they occur. Things change fast in construction so often going back to re-shoot is not always an option.

Once we were underway with the shoot we were complete within approximately 2 hours. We were looking for a mix of detail and wide shots so just focused on one of the many buildings on site as many features were similar across the other buildings. These results are great and we look forward to working with Britt and the team at Gibson O’Connor again soon.
